Following Canon's announcement in August 2019 that it was working on firmware for a number of its cameras to address a security flaw associated with the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP), it has now released firmware for the following cameras: Canon EOS 6D – version 1.1.9 Canon EOS 6D Mark II – version 1.0.5 Canon EOS 7D Mark II – version 1.1.3 Canon EOS 70D – version 1.1.3 Canon EOS 80D – version 1.0.3 Canon EOS M50 – version 1.0.3 Canon EOS M6 Mark II – version 1.0.1 Canon EOS 250D (Rebel SL3) – version 1.0.2 Canon EOS 760D (Rebel T6s) – version 1.0.1 The firmware updates offer the following fixes: 1. Corrects a PTP communications vulnerability. 2. Corrects a vulnerability related to firmware update. When updating the firmware, please review the instructions thoroughly before you download the firmware. Canon has released the first wave of firmware updates to resolve the Picture Transfer Protocol security flaw identified in Wi-Fi enabled EOS cameras. Firmware is available for the following cameras: EOS 5D Mark III – version 1.3.6 EOS 5D Mark IV – version 1.2.1 EOS 5DS – version 1.1.3 EOS 5DS R – version 1.1.3 EOS-1D X – version 2.1.1   EOS-1D X Mark II – version 1.1.7 Updates for other affected Canon EOS cameras are expected to be released in due course. There is a vulnerability related to communications via the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP), which is used by some EOS digital cameras. There is also a vulnerability related to firmware updates. So far, there are no confirmed reports of cameras being affected, but Canon has drawn up a list of workarounds to avoid potential problems.
