Canon Europe has launched a photography competition. Called #FreeYourStory, there are two themes to the challenge: The Mirror Selfie and Forced Perspective . The judges are looking for images that go beyond the ordinary captures for these two well-known themes, that deliver exceptional stories through the medium of photography. The competition closes on 21 September 2020; the winner of each theme will receive an EOS M200 and a Canon Zoemini S, plus a session with a professional photographer. 30 runners-up will also win Canon gear. Canon has begun accepting entries for its New Cosmos of Photography 2019 photo competition. Now in its 42nd year, the competition is open to international entrants in the aim of discovering, nurturing, and supporting developing photographers who want to explore new and creative ways to engage with photography and video. Experts from around the world have been invited to judge this year’s competition, including Emilia van Lynden, Artistic Director of the Dutch photo and video exhibition ‘Unseen’, and Sandra Phillips, Curator Emerita of Photography at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Canon will be accepting entries for its New Cosmos of Photography 2018 (41st edition) competition from 18 April. The New Cosmos of Photography is open to entrants globally and is Canon’s cultural project to discover, nurture and support new photographers. Since its launch in 1991, the programme has encouraged participants to explore new and creative ways to engage with photography. In 2015 the contest also opened entry to digital submissions (stills and video) to encourage more novel forms of photographic expression. The New Cosmos of Photography encourages participants to create original pieces of work that push the boundaries of photography. Award winners will have their work featured at exhibitions and published collections, as well on the New Cosmos of Photography website. Canon is looking for someone to fill a unique position as it begins its search for the ultimate storyteller. The lucky person will spend a year chasing summer across the globe in order to identify 365 inspiring stories. Applications will be taken via Instagram and judged by actress, producer, musician and storyteller, Zoë Kravitz (pictured above). The successful candidate will chase summer all over the world, visiting destinations from Lisbon to Melbourne to Brazil, curating their own story of the summer. Those who think they have what it takes to inspire people to find their own stories can apply by sharing their most memorable summer story on Instagram with the story behind it (no more than 50 words), tagging @CanonUK and #liveforthestory .
