Adobe Camera Raw Version 11.0 includes support for .cr3 raw files from the EOS R. Support for the .cr3 raw files from the EOS M50 was added in version 10.3. If you are subscribed to Adobe Creative Cloud, you will be able to upgrade Camera Raw from your apps menu.

Canon Digital Photo Professional Express is now available for use with Apple iPads. You can download it from the Apple iTunes store at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/canon-dpp-express/id1315877685 The software is compatible with .cr3 RAW files from the EOS R and M50 and JPEG files. It is not compatible with .cr2, .crw or video file formats. Compatible devices are the iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad (5th generation or later) and iPad Mini 4. The iPads require 2GB or more of RAM and iOS 11 or later. The download is free.

Canon has updated its Digital Photo Professional software to work with the EOS R and new lenses. Version 4.9.20 supports EOS R image files - RAW, CRAW(compact RAW) and DPRAW (dual pixel RAW). It also adds support for RAW and DPRAW files from the EOS 5D Mark IV. Canon has released Digital Photo Professional version 4.8.30. This adds support for the EOS D30, D60, 10D, 300D, D2000 and D6000. In addition, the update adds partial adjustment functions. You can download the update by going to: https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/product_ranges/cameras/eos/ and selecting your camera. Then select 'Software' and 'Check for available downloads' with Digital Photo Professional. If there is a choice, select 'Full versions'. You might be asked for your camera serial number.

ShutterCount version 2 was not able to read the number of shutter actuations from recent EOS cameras (see EOS magazine July-September 2017, page 12). However, a few days after the magazine was published, ShutterCount version 3 was introduced and this is compatible with the EOS-1D X Mark II, 5DS, 5DS R, 5D Mark IV, 80D, 77D, 750D and 800D, though only with Mac OS 10.7 or later (not Windows). As a number of photographers have discovered, some Canon software is not fully compatible with the new MacOS Sierra operating system. Canon is aware of the problems and has published information here: http://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/operating_system_information/ In brief, EOS Utility 2 will not connect via USB or Wi-Fi. Canon hopes to have updated software available by the end of December 2016. EOS Utility 3 will not connect via USB. Canon hopes to have updated software available by the end of January 2017. Map Utility will not connect via USB. Canon hopes to have updated software available by the end of December 2016.

Canon has updated some of their software. Digital Photo Profession version 4.5.10 adds support for the EOS M5, EF-M 18-150mm f3.5-6.3 IS STM, EF 24-105mm f4L IS II USM and EF 16-35mm f2.8L III USM. It also improves the accuracy of the Digital Lens Optimiser lens data for the EF 35mm f1.4L II USM. EOS Utility version 3.5.10 adds support for the EOS M5, EF 24-105mm f4L IS II USM and EF 16-35mm f2.8L III USM. Picture Style Editor version 1.17.10 adds support for the EOS M5. Canon has given details of a number of compatibility issues with the new macOS 10.12 (Sierra) operating system which will affect a selection of their software packages and products. If you own an affected product or software item, Canon strongly advises that you do not upgrade your operating system until confirmation of full functionality has been provided. Canon is planning to provide further information by the end of September. Canon  Japan has released an English version of PERSTEXT for the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. The Canon Print Service is a mobile print offering that enables users to print from any Android version 4.4 (KitKat) enabled devices as well as select HP Slate devices to select Canon models. EOS Utility 3.0 is an application for making camera settings, transferring images and remote shooting. Its link to Digital Photo Professional 4.0 has been strengthened. The Live View window has been integrated into one. It is now possible to release the shutter, capture screens, start the Live View window, and so on, from Digital Photo Professional. In remote shooting, through linking with a new function in Digital Photo Professional 4.0 (elimination selection), an enhancement in selecting images taken in a photo studio has been achieved.
