Canon has released updated firmware for the EOS R6 mirrorless camera.  Firmware version 1.8.0 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes: 1. Adds the ability for images to be cropped and resized during transfer to the FTP server. 2. Fixes minor issues. The firmware can be downloaded and installed via the Canon support page, and also via the Canon Camera Connect v3 app on a compatible smart device. Canon has released new firmware for the EOS R5 and EOS R6 full frame mirrorless cameras in response to user feedback. A video feature borrowed from the EOS R3 – Auto Power Off: Temp – can be added to the EOS R5 via this firmware. This enables longer recording times, with the High setting roughly doubling the length of footage (subject to conditions). The EOS R5 and R6 both gain the ability to convert multiple HEIF images to JPEG in-camera, whilst the Movie Digital IS feature has been improved in response to feedback that the edges of captured video in selfie mode with a wide-angle lens were shaky. As promised, Canon has released AF (autofocus) firmware updates for the EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras. Firmware version 1.5.2 for the EOS R5 incorporates the following enhancements: 1. Optimises autofocus accuracy when Extender RF 1.4x or Extender RF 2x is attached to the RF 800mm f5.6L IS USM and RF 1200mm f8L IS USM lenses. 2. Enhances the stability of Eye Detection. 3. Canon has released an update to the firmware for the EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras. Additionally it has announced that a further update will be released in late March 2022 which will optimise autofocus (AF) operations. Firmware version 1.5.1 incorporates the following fix: 1. Fixes an issue that in rare instances, the camera may become inoperable when shooting in the Servo AF setting while operating the <AF-ON> button. The firmware update can be downloaded from Canon Support. In the packaged files that download are instructions for installation. Canon Europe has announced that it will shortly be releasing firmware updates for the EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III cameras. Following the recent launch of the EOS R3, Canon will add some of the R3's revolutionary features to other cameras in its current professional line-up. Subject tracking improvements For the R5 and R6 mirrorless cameras, the firmware update will add 'Vehicles' to the Subject detection AF system. An innovation first delivered with the EOS R3, this means that the EOS R5 and R6 will be able to track racing cars and bikes in addition to animals and people. Canon's kit room at the Main Press Centre As part of its commitment to professional photographers, Canon offers on-site support at a number of major sporting events. This year's postponed Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, are no exception. Canon has set up the largest camera photo service centre at the Main Press Centre which will aim to provide photographers with the support they need to keep shooting throughout the Games, providing repairs, technical support and loan equipment. Its motto is 'Zero Downtime', to ensure that photographers don't miss decisive moments as the events progress. The centre will provide equipment such as Canon's flagship camera – the EOS-1D X Mark III – as well as the EOS R5 and EOS R6 mirrorless cameras and super-telephoto lenses.   Canon has released firmware updates for the EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III, plus has announced its intention for an update to the EOS R5 in due course. Canon states that these are in response to feedback from users and are designed to enhance video capture.  The new firmware for the EOS R6 (v1.4.0) and EOS-1D X Mark III (v1.5.0) brings Canon Log 3 (C-Log 3) to these cameras, a feature which has already been added to the EOS R5 ( see firmware update v1.3.0, 30 March 2021 ). This feature expands the dynamic range and offers more colour space options to achieve rich, high-quality video that mirrors that of Hollywood standard cinema cameras. Following the release, and subsequent suspension, of firmware version 1.3.0, Canon has now released v1.3.1 for the EOS R6 camera which incorporates the new features offered by v1.3, and fixes to phenomena. Firmware version 1.3.1 incorporates the following fixes and enhancements: 1. Adds [IPB (Light)] to 4K to enable lower bit rate shooting. 2. Adds [Electronic full-time MF] to the AF tab of the menu. When a lens is attached, manual focus adjustment is always possible with both One-shot AF and Servo AF. 3. Canon has released firmware version 1.1.1 for the EOS R6 camera which incorporates the following fixes and enhancements: 1. A messaging is displayed when [HDMI display: Camera+External monitor] and [Overheat control: on] settings are both enabled.   2. When the RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L IS USM is attached, an image stabilisation (IS) effect of approximately six stops* is achieved through collaborative control with the in-lens image stabilisation. 3.
