Canon has released firmware version 1.5.0 for the EOS RP full frame mirrorless camera, offering compatibility with new RF lenses and extenders due for release at the end of July 2020: Support has been added for the following lenses:  • RF600mm f11 IS STM  • RF800mm f11 IS STM  • EXTENDER RF 1.4x  • EXTENDER RF 2x To download the firmware update, visit Canon UK support. This firmware update is for cameras equipped with firmware up to Version 1.4.0. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.5.0, this update is unnecessary. When updating the firmware of your camera, please first review the instructions thoroughly.

Canon Europe today launches the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM and RF 85mm f1.2L USM DS lenses, delivering on its commitment to introduce six RF lenses for the EOS R System in 2019. Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM Completing Canon’s f2.8 trinity series for the RF mount, the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM is the world's shortest and lightest 70-200mm interchangeable lens. Weighing approximately 1,070g and 146mm in length at its shortest, it's around 28% lighter and 27% shorter than the existing EF mount model. It's also the first RF lens with a white heat shield coating – meaning that the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM will perform at a premium high standard whatever the weather. Canon has announced that it plans to release firmware updates for five of its recent cameras which will add 24p (23.98fps) mode for video recording, available in both Full HD and 4K modes. The camera models which are due to receive updated firmware (with anticipated release dates) are as follows: EOS 90D – late October 2019 EOS RP – late October 2019 PowerShot G7X Mark III – December 2019 PowerShot G5X Mark II – December 2019 EOS M6 Mark II – to follow in 2020 The decision to release firmware updates that enable the additional video frame rate is in response to customer feedback and demand. Of the announcement Canon says it "is committed to providing a diverse and full line-up of products to cater for all capabilities and interests by listening to our customers feedback and providing enhancements accordingly.".

Canon has released firmware updates for the EOS R and EOS RP cameras, the benefits of which were first announced in August 2019 alongside the introduction of the EOS 90D and M6 Mark II. These updates offer improvement to the cameras' Eye Detection AF feature, making it more responsive, and also fixes the known PTP security flaw. Firmware versions 1.4.0 for the EOS R incorporates the following enhancements and fixes: 1. Enhances Eye Detection Autofocus (AF) for improved face and eye recognition at greater distances. 2. Improved AF performance helps the camera to focus on and track smaller subjects. 3. Reduces lag time between the actual AF and the AF frame display for images in the viewfinder or on the LCD. 4. Canon will be releasing firmware updates for both the EOS R and EOS RP cameras, bringing improvements to the Eye Detection AF feature. This is to coincide with the two new RF lenses, also announced today. The updates will offer improved accuracy and faster subject acquisition, as well as greater reach, meaning that your subject’s eye will be picked up from further away.  The new firmware will be available from the end of September 2019

Digital Photo Professional, Canon's own RAW editing software, has been updated to version 4.10.0. This latest version adds a new Depth Compositing function for images captured via the new Focus Bracketing feature introduced on the EOS RP, Canon's new full frame mirrorless camera for advanced amateur and enthusiast photographers. Canon says that the Depth Compositing function is also compatible with images captured on the EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS R. The past is always a useful guide to the future – and based on this, we’re going to look at the EOS R system in light of the EOS RP launch earlier this month. And to do so, we’re going to delve into the archives at the launch of the EOS 300D (USA: Digital Rebel) back in 2003, and even further back still to the launch of the EOS 650 film camera in 1987. Even if we don’t have insider knowledge, we know our EOS history, and that’s always served us well when it comes to understanding Canon’s intentions and development decisions. At the launch of the EOS 300D, Canon predicted that it would be a significant point in the history of digital photography.
