Further firmware updates released to address security flaw

Following Canon's announcement in August 2019 that it was working on firmware for a number of its cameras to address a security flaw associated with the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP), it has now released firmware for the following cameras: Canon EOS 6D – version 1.1.9 Canon EOS 6D Mark II – version 1.0.5 Canon EOS 7D Mark II – version 1.1.3 Canon EOS 70D – version 1.1.3 Canon EOS 80D – version 1.0.3 Canon EOS M50 – version 1.0.3 Canon EOS M6 Mark II – version 1.0.1 Canon EOS 250D (Rebel SL3) – version 1.0.2 Canon EOS 760D (Rebel T6s) – version 1.0.1 The firmware updates offer the following fixes: 1. Corrects a PTP communications vulnerability. 2. Corrects a vulnerability related to firmware update. When updating the firmware, please review the instructions thoroughly before you download the firmware. EOS 6D firmware update

Firmware Version 1.1.8 incorporates the following fix: 1. Fixes a phenomenon in which standard exposure may not be obtained, or an irregular exposure may result, when Silent LV (Live View) shooting with the following TS-E lenses: TS-E 50mm f/2.8L MACRO, TS-E 90mm f/2.8L MACRO, or TS-E 135mm f/4L MACRO. Firmware updates for several EOS cameras

Canon has released a number of firmware updates to correct for a phenomenon in which when using an EOS camera with the EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS II USM lens, even if lens aberration correction is set to 'Enable', no correction will be applied. The affected cameras and the new firmware update is listed below: EOS-1D X, firmware 2.0.9 EOS-1D Mark IV, firmware 1.1.5 EOS 5D Mark III, firmware 1.3.4 EOS 6D, firmware 1.1.7 EOS 7D, firmware 2.0.6 EOS 70D, firmware 1.1.2 EOS 60D, firmware 1.1.2 EOS 700D, firmware 1.1.5 EOS 650D, firmware 1.0.5 EOS 550D, firmware 1.1.0 EOS 500D, firmware 1.1.2 EOS 1300D, firmware 1.0.2 EOS 1200D, firmware 1.0.2 EOS 1100D, firmware 1.0.6 EOS 100D, firmware 1.0.1 EOS M, firmware 2.0.3 We have listed some of these firmware updates earlier on this blog, but have included them again here for completeness. New firmware v1.1.7 for EOS 6D

Firmware Version 1.1.7 is now available for the EOS 6D and offers the following fix: Corrects a phenomenon in which when using the camera with the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens, even if lens aberration correction is set to 'Enable', correction will not be applied. Firmware Version 1.1.7 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.1.6. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.1.7, it is not necessary to update the firmware. EOS 6D firmware version 1.1.6

Firmware Version 1.1.6 incorporates the following fixes: 1. Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera may not first use the centre AF point to focus, when the AF point selection is set to automatic in AI Servo AF mode. 2. Fixes a phenomenon in which focus cannot be finely adjusted with specific lenses when shooting remotely with EOS Utility software. 3. Firmware upgade for EOS 6D

Firmware Version 1.1.4 for the EOS 6D incorporates the following: 1. Fixes a phenomenon in which some images cannot be transferred to mobile devices running the EOS Remote app. 2. Corrects an error in the German language Feature Guide. 3. Corrects an error in the Korean language Feature Guide. EOS 6D firmware repairs faulty clock

Firmware Version 1.1.3 for the EOS 6D fixes an error where the Date/Time/Zone settings screen appears on the LCD display after the user has already configured these settings.  The values for the Date/Time settings may reset if the backup functions which retain those values do not perform properly. Even if the camera does not exhibit this phenomenon currently, it may in the future. Firmware update resolves EOS 6D video issue

Firmware Version 1.1.2 for the EOS 6D fixes a phenomenon which prevents movie files shot using Canon EOS 6D Digital SLR cameras from being played back on YouTube. You can download firmware version1.1.2 at http://software.canon-europe.com/ However, firmware version 1.1.2 may present some Video Snapshot limitations, as follows: 1. EOS 6D running Firmware Version 1.0.9: If a video snapshot captured when the camera was running firmware 1.0.9 is combined with a video snapshot created by a camera which was running firmware 1.1.2, the resulting video snapshot album will be corrupted. 2. EOS 6D running Firmware Version 1.1.2: If you try to add a video snapshot from a camera running firmware 1.1.2 to the video snapshot album created when the camera was running firmware 1.0.9, a warning message "Cannot select this movie" will appear and the video snapshot cannot be added to the album. EOS 6D available early December
