150 million lenses milestone for Canon

Canon has reached a new lens-manufacturing milestone with the production in January 2021 of the company’s 150-millionth interchangeable lens for EOS cameras— an RF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM lens. Production of interchangeable EF lenses for EOS cameras began in 1987. EF lens production passed the 10-million mark in 1995 and crossed the 50-million-unit threshold in 2009. In April 2014, the company celebrated its first-in-the-world achievement of having manufactured 100 million interchangeable lenses. Laid end-to-end, all of the RF and EF lenses Canon has manufactured so far would measure approximately 7,736 miles in length — nearly equivalent to the Earth’s diameter of approximately 7,917 miles.

Canon releases firmware updates for selected RF lenses

Canon has released firmware updates for several of its current RF lens line-up to add compatibility for the EOS R5 and R6 cameras. The new firmware adds core functionality to the lens image stabilisation (IS) features to enable the lenses to work together with the new in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) system introduced with the EOS R5 and R6 cameras. The following lenses have new firmware versions available, with links below to download the firmware. Canon plans for future RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM lens firmware update

Canon plans to release updated firmware for the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM lens in January 2020 to fix an identified and reported issue when using the 200mm end of the focal range. The statement, issued by Canon, gives further details as follows: " It has been confirmed that when using the RF70-200mm f2.8L IS USM to perform AF shooting to capture a subject at close-range with the focus distance approximately set to the tele-end (200mm), the image may become slightly front-focused. " New firmware with improved focus accuracy is scheduled for release in the beginning of January 2020, and once the preparations are completed, we will post the information on our website. "

Canon completes its 2019 commitment to RF lens line-up

Canon Europe today launches the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM and RF 85mm f1.2L USM DS lenses, delivering on its commitment to introduce six RF lenses for the EOS R System in 2019. Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM Completing Canon’s f2.8 trinity series for the RF mount, the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM is the world's shortest and lightest 70-200mm interchangeable lens. Weighing approximately 1,070g and 146mm in length at its shortest, it's around 28% lighter and 27% shorter than the existing EF mount model. It's also the first RF lens with a white heat shield coating – meaning that the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM will perform at a premium high standard whatever the weather. The RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM is the first Canon lens to support an electronic floating focus control that drives the two lens groups individually with Dual Nano USMs. Alongside the benefits of Nano USM – quietness and speed – the Dual Nano USMs also help achieve high-precision still image AF and smo...
