EF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 IS II USM with fast, whisper quiet Nano USM

Designed for use with full-frame or APS-C cameras, the new EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS II USM offers cutting-edge AF and optical technology for stills and movies. With a completely new optical design, the lens features one ultra-low dispersion (UD) lens element to reduce chromatic aberration, for sharp images with outstanding colour and contrast. When using the zoom, the new four-stop optical image stabilizer (IS) reduces the effects of camera shake, allowing you to shoot with longer shutter speeds without a tripod and still achieve sharp shots. The built-in Nano USM – a breakthrough technology that was introduced with the EF-S 18 -135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM – offers fast focus acquisition, exceptional tracking speed and smooth, quiet operation. Nano USM makes the lens ideal for movie-makers, giving a natural look and feel to movies – the quiet motor ensuring that soundtracks aren’t disturbed by focusing noise and providing smooth focus transitions from one subject to another. Small body, big power – the EOS M5, a new flagship mirrorless camera from Canon

Canon has announced a new EOS mirrorless camera – the EOS M5. It is the first EOS to feature Canon’s DIGIC 7 processor and includes a 24.2 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF for sharp photos and dynamic, cinematic movies. Also new is the EF-M 18-150mm f3.5-6.3 IS STM, an all-occasion lens for EOS M cameras with a versatile 8.3x optical zoom and 4-stop Image Stabilizer for sharp, handheld shots. At just 300g, the lens offers high-end performance in a small body. Power, precision, performance DIGIC 7 offers boosted image processing power for lower noise, more detail and richer tones. When combined with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, spontaneous moments can be frozen thanks to DSLR-level AF speeds and accuracy, while sophisticated recognition and subject tracking helps the camera lock onto subjects for longer and more precisely in both movies and stills. The 24.2 Megapixel sensor includes gapless micro lenses to maximise the sensor area, increasing pixel light sensitivity w

New CMOS sensor with global shutter function

Canon has developed a CMOS sensor equipped with a global shutter function. This exposes all of the sensor's pixels at the same time, enabling the capture of distortion-free images even when shooting fast-moving objects. Employing a new signal-readout drive system and new pixel structure that significantly expands the full well capacity and reduces noise, the sensor contributes to high-image-quality video capture by making possible the realisation of a wide dynamic range. Distortion-free image capture when shooting fast-moving objects Standard CMOS sensors make use of the rolling shutter method, which sequentially exposes the pixels one row at a time. Because rolling shutters can create slight discrepancies in signal-readout timing depending on the location of the pixel, images of fast-moving objects may appear distorted and flash photography may result in the occurrence of the flash band phenomenon, in which the upper and lower portions of images display different levels of br

DPP and EU updates support EOS 5D Mark IV

Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software version 4.5.0 is available for download. The main changes are that is now supports the EOS 5D Mark IV (including the new Dual Pixel RAW function for focus microadjustment). It also supports the EF-M 28mm f3.5 Macro IS STM (the lens with the built-in LED macrolite). Also updated is EOS Utility (EU). Version 3.5.0 supports the EOS 5D Mark IV. In addition, it fixes a problem where, during remote shooting, there are instances where images cannot be properly recorded. You can download the updates by going to: www.canon.co.uk/support and entering the EOS 5D Mark IV as the camera. In the next window select the software tab and scroll down.
