Canon has released a number of firmware updates to correct for a phenomenon in which when using an EOS camera with the EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS II USM lens, even if lens aberration correction is set to 'Enable', no correction will be applied. Canon has released firmware upgrades for three of its professional EOS models Firmware version 1.1.4 for the EOS-1D Mark IV Firmware version 1.3.2 for the EOS-1D Mark III Firmware version 1.2.3 for the EOS-1Ds Mark III incorporate the same two fixes: •  Resolves the following phenomenon: when the camera is not attached to a lens, power consumption may be higher than usual, causing premature battery drain. •  Resolves a phenomenon in which 'Err 02' ('Err 70' on the EOS-1D Mark III and 1Ds Mark III) may be displayed when the shutter is released without a lens attached. Firmware Version 1.1.3 for the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV camera incorporates the following functional improvement and fix: 1. Enables the centre AF point to autofocus when the camera is used with the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x lens and an Extender, whose combined maximum aperture is f/8. 2. Fixes a phenomenon in which abnormal images may result when continuous shooting mode is enabled and the image size is set to "RAW" or "RAW+JPEG". Firmware Version 1.2.2 for the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III camera incorporates the following functional improvement: 1. Firmware Version 1.1.1 for the EOS 1D Mark IV incorporates the following change. • Optimizes the camera's exposure accuracy when using EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM and EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM lenses, which are scheduled for release in June 2012. If these lenses are used with an EOS-1D Mark IV camera that has not been updated with the new firmware, the image may be overexposed depending on the subject and shooting scene. Firmware Version 1.1.0 for the EOS 1D Mark IV incorporates the following improvements and fixes: 1. Improves writing/reading speeds when using UDMA 7-compatible CF cards. 2. Fixes a phenomenon where the ability to shoot movies may be stopped under the following conditions: - when using high-capacity (32 GB or greater) CF cards with little available space remaining and the user attempts to start shooting movies; - when the camera's battery is removed and reinserted into the camera and the user immediately attempts to start shooting movies. 3. Corrects misspellings in the menu screens displayed in Arabic and Portuguese languages (applies to models outside of the the Japanese market only). The firmware upgrade can be installed by the user. Canon is extending its offer of a free two-year warranty for the EOS-1D Mark IV to include cameras purchased before 30 June 2012. This two-year warranty is a one-year extension on top of the standard Canon one-year European warranty offered on all products and it will be operating under identical terms and conditions. This gives photographers a total warranty period of two years from the date of purchase of their new product. Canon is not only providing this extended two-year warranty on new EOS-1D Mark IV purchases, but is also making it available to all existing owners of EOS-1D Mark IV bodies. The extended warranty is available on EOS-1D Mark IV purchases that are made, or have been made, in specific countries in Europe. A firmware update has been announced for the EOS 1D Mark IV. Version 1.0.6 improves the autofocus tracking performance for subjects moving towards or away from the camera at low speeds.
