Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM Completing Canon’s f2.8 trinity series for the RF mount, the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM is the world's shortest and lightest 70-200mm interchangeable lens. Weighing approximately 1,070g and 146mm in length at its shortest, it's around 28% lighter and 27% shorter than the existing EF mount model. It's also the first RF lens with a white heat shield coating – meaning that the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM will perform at a premium high standard whatever the weather. The RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM is the first Canon lens to support an electronic floating focus control that drives the two lens groups individually with Dual Nano USMs. Alongside the benefits of Nano USM – quietness and speed – the Dual Nano USMs also help achieve high-precision still image AF and smo...

100 million Canon EOS cameras milestone

Canon has announced that on 20 September 2019 it reached a significant manufacturing milestone, having produced 100 million EOS camera bodies. The 100 millionth camera to roll of the production line was the EOS R camera, Canon's first full frame mirrorless model originally launched in October 2018. The Canon EOS system was first launched in March 1987, with the introduction of the EOS 650 film camera. The EOS 650 was a next-generation AF single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, featuring the world’s first fully electronic lens mount. Production of the EOS series began in what was then Canon’s Fukushima plant and now takes place at a variety of locations – including Taiwan, Miyazaki, Nagasaki and the lynchpin Oita Canon – where production is now carried out under stringent product quality management. Following the release of the EOS 650, Canon went on to develop innovative products and technologies that put speed, comfort and image quality at the forefront – such as the high-e...

In an exclusive interview with EOS magazine for the April-June 2019 issue , Michael Burnhill, European Technical Support Manager at Canon Europe, told us what the new EOS R system means for the future of Canon EOS cameras and hints at the exciting optics made possible by the new RF lens mount. Interview by Angela August, Editor AA: Where is Canon heading with the EOS R system?   MB: That's still to be defined, but the plan is to develop the system in both directions. With the EOS RP we've gone towards an entry-level full-frame camera, which is a very large market. It was a bit of curve ball because everyone seemed to have expected a high-end model. When you have a high-end product it's got to be bullet-proof. It's got to work. That's the faith professionals have in Canon. It’s not going to let them down. And that's what has built the CPS [Canon Professional Services] reputation. It’s the same with a pro mirrorless camera – it's got to work. ...
