Canon announces EOS 90D and EOS M6 Mark II

Canon Europe has launched two high-speed, high resolution cameras – one DSLR and one M-series mirrorless – designed to take enthusiast photographers to the next skill level. Same on the inside, but designed for different users and purposes, the EOS 90D (DSLR) and EOS M6 Mark II (mirrorless) are both equipped with Canon’s latest generation DIGIC 8 processor, brand new 32.5MP CMOS sensor, standard connectivity tools (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), 4K video in conjunction with Canon’s powerful Dual Pixel CMOS AF, plus Eye detection AF. The EOS 90D is a fast and reliable DSLR, with a familiar, robust body perfect for sport and wildlife photographers. You can shoot at 10fps with autofocus tracking and 11fps in Live View. The optical viewfinder enables the responsiveness needed to shoot wildlife, such as birds in flight, while an intelligent function gives complete visibility of the composition and shooting settings within the display. Firmware update to bring improved Eye detection AF

Canon will be releasing firmware updates for both the EOS R and EOS RP cameras, bringing improvements to the Eye Detection AF feature. This is to coincide with the two new RF lenses, also announced today. The updates will offer improved accuracy and faster subject acquisition, as well as greater reach, meaning that your subject’s eye will be picked up from further away.  The new firmware will be available from the end of September 2019

Two Canon RF lenses officially released

Canon unveils the first two of its trinity RF F2.8L lenses, expanding the pioneering RF lens line-up for the EOS R System. Firmware version 1.2.0 for the EOS RP

Firmware version 1.2.0 for the EOS RP adds support for the RF 24-24-mm f4-6.3 IS USM lens. It also corrects an error in which the top of some captured images may be dark during high-speed sync shooting with an external flash. EISA Awards for Canon

The EISA Awards 2019-2020 have been announced and Canon features strongly in the Photography section. Here are the EISA Awards the company has received. Security advisory for Canon digital cameras

There is a vulnerability related to communications via the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP), which is used by some EOS digital cameras. There is also a vulnerability related to firmware updates. So far, there are no confirmed reports of cameras being affected, but Canon has drawn up a list of workarounds to avoid potential problems. They are also working on firmware updates for at-risk cameras. Firmware version 1.0.3 for the EOS 80D has already been introduced. Updates for other models will follow.
