Canon has enjoyed success in funding various concept cameras via crowdfunding platforms, and the PowerShot PICK is the latest in its line-up to be financed in this way.
It was first introduced as a concept camera in 2018, but it has now been launched on the Japanese crowdfunding platform, Makuake. with a ¥1,000,000 goal.
At only 90mm high, this palm-sized camera is packed with Canon’s optical, video processing and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. It can survey a scene, search for people’s faces and automatically take pictures at the ideal moment.
According to Canon, the PowerShot PICK is designed to “blend in with your family’s circle so that you can forget about it, so you can stay close to your family at home or out.” The PowerShot PICK costs ¥42,900 (about $390). While Canon anticipates delivering the PowerShot PICK to backers by the end of July 2021, whether or not it makes it to more general release has not been confirmed.
