Video-first pairing announced: meet the EOS R6 V and RF 20-50mm f4L IS USM PZ

Canon has announced two new video-centric additions to the EOS R mirrorless system: the EOS R6 V camera and the RF 20-50mm f4L IS USM PZ lens.

Canon EOS R6 V camera

The EOS R6 V sits at the top of Canon's current V-series line-up, offering an advanced tool for serious content creators. Offering a 32.5MP full frame sensor equipped with Canon's latest sensor-based focusing system, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with subject-based detection, its video-centric design and features offer a user-friendly path into video creation. In addition to being able to detect people, animals and vehicles, the camera also offers Register People Priority, for programming up to ten faces to guarantee that these people are prioritised when shooting.

Featuring two record buttons – one on top of the camera and one at the front – and two tripod mounts, one specifically for vertical shooting, it also has a built-in fan to keep the camera cool even when shooting 7K RAW video for extended periods. It offers Open Gate recording for maximum versatility and retention of detail, so you can crop in post to the size you need. Plus 4-channel audio recording provides precise control over each input independently.

There's also a power zoom lever on top of the camera, which works with lenses which feature a power zoom, like the new RF 20-50mm f4L IS USM PZ lens which has been announced alongside the EOS R6 V. In all, there are 12 buttons available for customisation, with seven of these numbered on the rear of the camera for easy reference.

Even though the camera is a video-first product, it is also well-featured for stills. Its 32.5MP sensor is capable of shooting up to 40 frames per second (fps) using the electronic shutter, plus it offers recently developed features such as pre-continuous shooting, able to capture up to 0.5 second (20 frames) of stills prior to the shutter button being fully pressed. And for easy switching between video and stills there's a dedicated Photo / Video mode switch.

The camera has two cards slots, one for CFexpress and one for SD. It takes the familiar LP-E6P battery – common to all 5-series and 6-series cameras – and has a multi-function shoe on top of the camera for further accessories to be attached.

Canon RF 20-50mm f4L IS USM PZ lens
The RF 20-50mm f4L IS USM PZ lens, also announced today, is Canon's first full frame zoom lens for the EOS R system. Compact and lightweight at 420g, this lens pairs perfectly with the EOS R6 V and offers a usefully wide focal length range both indoors and out without needing to change lens.

It features three Ultra-low disperson (UD) lens elements, Air Sphere Coating (ASC) and optically suppressed focus breathing to maintain a stable frame during zooming. It also offers up to 6-stops of optical image stabilisation, opening up more creative opportunities for handheld shooting as well as reduction of blur from camera shake.

The lens which is dust- and moisture-resistant has a number of on-body controls. These include a customisable Lens Function button, a manual focus ring and a dedicated Control Ring for instant access to an assigned setting. What's more, the Power Zoom function can be operated either on the lens, via a camera with zoom lever or remotely.

Both the camera and lens will be available from 24 June 2026 as follows:

  • EOS R6 V body only: £2399.99 / €2699.99 (RRP).
  • RF 20-50mm f4L IS USM PZ lens: £1439.99 / €1639.99.
  • Combined camera and lens kit: £3549.99 / €3999.99

Firmware updates for EOS R1 and R5 Mark II

Canon has released new firmware for its flagship EOS R1 camera (version 1.0.2) as well as the EOS R5 Mark II (version 1.0.3), both of which offer the following enhancement and fix: 1. Optimizes the timing of the camera's display of its internal camera temperature warning indicator. 2. Fixes an issue that may interfere with the camera's ability to focus properly when using AF (autofocus) in certain zoom ranges. For the EOS R5 Mark II, Canon advises that if the camera's firmware is Version 1.0.1, you should update the firmware with only one memory card inserted into the camera. You should always read the instructions that come with the firmware update, as there are often details specific to that update, as with the EOS R5 Mark II (above).
