Canon announces the full-frame EOS 6D Mark II

Canon reveals the highly anticipated EOS 6D Mark II – realise your creative vision with the latest generation full frame DSLR camera.

The EOS 6D Mark II is the latest addition to Canon’s full frame DSLR line-up, designed for both the passionate hobbyist and the professional photographer alike.

This new camera features Canon’s latest generation technologies and is designed for a range of specialist photography categories, from travel to portraits. It's a significant upgrade and worthy successor to the EOS 6D.

An evolutionary tale

The EOS 6D Mark II has been developed following feedback from users. With its new full frame 26.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 7 processor, 45-point AF system and Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, the EOS 6D Mark II delivers the highest quality images plus a range of new features and connectivity to boot.

An improvement from the original EOS 6D, the Mark II has a vari-angle LCD touch-screen which allows you to switch focus with one tap and reach tricky angles when shooting unusual perspectives.

Improved ISO and dynamic range

Its high dynamic range ensures exceptional exposure latitude so users can push boundaries when shooting in bright light conditions. The improved ISO range of 100-40,000, expandable to ISO 102,400, allows flexibility so documentary photographers can snap scenes with the confidence that details will be retained even in the darkest nights.

Better focusing

With the EOS 6D Mark II users can achieve greater control thanks to the all-new 45-point AF system (all cross-type), which can be customised for more precise tracking. Alongside DIGIC 7’s image processing advancements, the EOS 6D Mark II can predict the movement of a subject across the frame and respond rapidly. Canon’s renowned Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology also allows for high performance tracking as well as smoother focusing, meaning shorter focusing times for movies. When combined with the 6.5 frames per second (fps), the EOS 6D Mark II opens a whole new range of possibilities.

The EOS 6D Mark II is the first full-frame EOS camera to include built-in 5-axis movie stabilisation that counteracts the effects of camera shake when footage is captured hand-held and on-the-move.

Smarter connectivity

The EOS 6D Mark II boasts Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for an always-on connection. As with its predecessor, the 6D Mark II camera has built-in GPS to keep track of your location. Given that the camera is compact and lightweight for a full-frame DSLR – in fact the smallest and lightest full-frame in the world – it's ideal for travel, landscape and more.

New 4K time-lapse feature

The EOS 6D Mark II is the first camera from Canon to have both 4K time-lapse movie mode and an intervalometer for more diverse movie making. Getting creative is made even easier and capturing footage in up to 4K resolution is ideal for shooting star-scapes in brilliant detail.

Pricing and availability
The EOS 6D Mark II will be available in July 2017 with an RRP of £1,999.99/€2,499.99 body only

The EOS 6D Mark II can also be purchased with an EF 24-105 STM kit lens with an RRP of £2,379.99/€2,944.99

Canon announces EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II as next R system evolution

Canon has today launched two new cameras for the EOS R system – the EOS R1, a new flagship model to take over from the EOS-1D X Mark III, and the EOS R5 Mark II, the next iteration of the ever-popular 5-series. The two camera share much more than just a launch date. They herald the arrival of the next generation of Canon's sensor-based focusing system – Dual Pixel Intelligent AF – as well as offering a raft of improvements over previous R-series cameras. The new features and the improvements alike are powered by a duo of DIGIC processors, one DIGIC X and one DIGIC Accelerator – and by Deep Learning, with the introduction of Action Priority AF for team-based sports. Both cameras sport brand new, purpose-made back illuminated stacked (BSI) sensors; the EOS R1 offers 24.2MP and the EOS R5 Mark II offers 45MP. Rolling shutter effect is reduced, significantly so on the EOS R1. In-camera there's also an up-scaling feature, giving users of both cameras the opportunity to increase res...

RF 28-70mm f2.8 IS STM announced

Canon Europe today announces the RF 28-70mm f2.8 IS STM, a new lightweight lens designed to be a next step for photographers wanting to upgrade from their kit lens.   Designed for a variety of shooting scenarios, from portraiture to street and travel, the fast f2.8 constant aperture throughout the zoom range is ideal for shooting in low light conditions, capturing everything from fading ‘blue hour’ light to dimly lit indoor scenes. Built with reliability in mind, this weather-resistant lens also allows for shooting handheld at slower shutter speeds in lower light environments with optical image stabilisation of up to 5.5 stops.   Measuring just 92.2mm in length when retracted and weighing 490g, this latest lens is among the lightest of its kind. With a significant weight reduction compared to previous lens options, it pairs perfectly with the smaller full frame EOS R-series bodies, such as the EOS R, RP and R8.
