Canon launches Facebook app and PIXMA software for printing photos

Canon is introducing new photo printing software solutions.

Print Your Days
A new Facebook application, 'Print Your Days' makes it easier to enhance and print photos directly from the site without the need for any additional software. The app, available online via Facebook, includes tools which allow you to automatically adjust photo layouts and create unique collage prints with up to five photos printed on a page. It also provides a range of style and editing options, including borders, cropping and the ability to add captions as well as colourful photo effects, such as sepia tone for a popular vintage look. A selection of 24 colourful backdrops can be chosen to decorate the background of a collage, ranging from fun spots or stripes to more natural effects such as grass or cork.

'Print Your Days' also makes it possible to print photos uploaded to Facebook by friends (providing friends on Facebook have given permission to access their photos), so photos of holidays, birthdays and other special occasions can be  enjoyed and shared in print as well as online.

'Print your Days' is compatible with Windows 7 and Vista only. It requires Silverlight 5 or later. If this is not installed you will be guided to the download site of Microsoft where Silverlight 5 can be downloaded.

My Image Garden
New PIXMA printing software, 'My Image Garden', makes navigating between Canon’s printing and scanning software effortless. Available for all PIXMA printers launched since Autumn 2010, My Image Garden, compatible on both Windows and Mac operating systems, is a one-stop platform that combines all software currently available for Canon PIXMA printers through a single, easy-to-use interface. New advanced features include Automatic Suggestion, which searches your PC for stored images and displays forgotten photos on the desktop via a slideshow. The images can then be edited and printed through 'My Image Garden'. Automatic Layout uses image technology to recognise images and automatically recommend the optimum layout for print. Face recognition software also detects faces in photos and automatically groups images together, making it easy to locate shots of particular friends and family.

'My Image Garden' software will be available for download by the end of July 2012.

Creative Park Premium
Available through Canon’s new 'My Image Garden software' is 'Creative Park Premium' (only available when using genuine Canon inks with a Canon PIXMA printer). This is a free resource for downloading and creating printable cards, crafts, calendars and other stationery. It includes access to exclusive imagery and artwork from famous photographers and artists, with popular designs featuring Paddington Bear, Peter Rabbit and Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

'Creative Park Premium' has  been upgraded to feature a new, easy-to-use photo selection process that enables you to display, download and print images through a single user interface. Also featured in the updated software is a range of new content, such as photos and crafting templates from National Geographic that can be used to create calendars. New content from NASA includes a selection of printable crafting templates for building 3D space shuttles.

Canon announces development of flagship EOS R1

Canon Inc. has announced today that it is currently developing the EOS R1, a full-frame mirrorless camera, as the first flagship model for the EOS R system.  Whilst there is no timeline given for launch as yet, Canon has released hints of what's to come in terms of technology. It will use a newly developed processor, called DIGIC Accelerator, alongside the existing DIGIC X found in other R-series cameras plus a newly developed image sensor, which will enable a large volume of data to be processed at high speeds, and which will also deliver advances in autofocus (AF) and other functions as yet unspecified. The Deep learning technology – first found in the current flagship EOS-1D X Mark III DSLR camera – will be embedded in the new EOS R1. Canon also mentions a new AF 'Action Priority' function, which " further recognises subject movement by rapidly analysing the subject's status ". This AI-based programming promises to predict the key activity in a match, there

Canon announces EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II as next R system evolution

Canon has today launched two new cameras for the EOS R system – the EOS R1, a new flagship model to take over from the EOS-1D X Mark III, and the EOS R5 Mark II, the next iteration of the ever-popular 5-series. The two camera share much more than just a launch date. They herald the arrival of the next generation of Canon's sensor-based focusing system – Dual Pixel Intelligent AF – as well as offering a raft of improvements over previous R-series cameras. The new features and the improvements alike are powered by a duo of DIGIC processors, one DIGIC X and one DIGIC Accelerator – and by Deep Learning, with the introduction of Action Priority AF for team-based sports. Both cameras sport brand new, purpose-made back illuminated stacked (BSI) sensors; the EOS R1 offers 24.2MP and the EOS R5 Mark II offers 45MP. Rolling shutter effect is reduced, significantly so on the EOS R1. In-camera there's also an up-scaling feature, giving users of both cameras the opportunity to increase res
