Canon announces two top tier telephoto lenses

  Canon today announces the introduction of two new super telephoto prime lenses for the EOS R mirrorless system. Further advancing lens design and capability, these L-series lenses are intended for the professional user looking for ultimate reach, performance and operability. The RF 800mm f5.6L IS USM lens and RF 1200mm f8L IS USM lens both offer extreme magnification, optical image stabilisation (4.5- and 4-stops respectively), two focus presets as well as full AF compatibility with the 1.4x and 2x RF Extenders (teleconverters). For their specifications, the two lenses are compact and lighter than what has come before. The RF 800mm f5.6L lens is the lightest in its class – weighing 3.14kg – whilst the RF 1200mm f8L lens is a mere 20% of the EF equivalent, weighing 3.34kg. Minor firmware update for EOS R5 and R6 cameras

Canon has released an update to the firmware for the EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras. Additionally it has announced that a further update will be released in late March 2022 which will optimise autofocus (AF) operations. Firmware version 1.5.1 incorporates the following fix: 1. Fixes an issue that in rare instances, the camera may become inoperable when shooting in the Servo AF setting while operating the <AF-ON> button. The firmware update can be downloaded from Canon Support. In the packaged files that download are instructions for installation. These should be carefully followed to ensure that the firmware update is correctly installed. EOS R5 update EOS R6 update  

EOS R3 firmware update

Firmware version 1.1.1 for the Canon EOS R3 camera incorporates the following enhancements and fixes: 1. Adds the ability to use Smartphone link adapter AD-P1. 2. Adds the ability, when using EOS Utility or Browser Remote for remote shooting with two cards inserted, to set the recording method and select the card to be recorded to. 3. Adds the ability to cancel [Subject Tracking] by pressing the Quick Control and then <INFO> buttons. 4. Adds Ukrainian as an option to the language of 'Browser Remote'. 5. Improves operation stability during FTP transfer. 6. Fixes an issue that in rare instances, the camera may become inoperable when shooting in the Servo AF setting while operating the <AF-ON> button. 7. Canon announces launch of EOS R5 C hybrid camera

Firmware update for EOS M50 Mark II

Firmware version 1.0.1 for the EOS M50 Mark II incorporates the following fix: 1. Fixes an issue in which after the camera is connected to the smartphone application 'Camera Connect', there are instances that the power of the camera cannot be turned on temporarily. Firmware update for Canon RF 70-200mm f4L lens

Canon has released firmware version 1.1.0 for the RF 70-200mm f4L IS USM lens, which incorporates the following enhancements and fixes: 1. Adds an electronic full-time manual focus function (a function that enables constant manual focus adjustment in both One-shot AF and Servo AF), which is enabled when using the EOS R5, EOS R6, and EOS R3 cameras. 2. Improves an issue in which the background is not blurred when performing slow panning with the IS (Image Stabilization) mode set to Mode 2 or Mode 3. Firmware version 1.1.0 is for lenses with firmware up to  version 1.0.8. If the lens' firmware is already version 1.1.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Project Dragonfly expands with a further 120 Canon EF 400mm lenses

Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the company will provide technical assistance once again to Project Dragonfly, an international research team from Yale University, and the University of Toronto, in its plan to expand the Dragonfly Telephoto Array. The company will provide the project with 120 Canon EF 400mm f2.8L IS II USM large-aperture super-telephoto single-focal length lenses, and its parent company, Canon Inc., will provide technical assistance. The Dragonfly Telephoto Array is a telescope array equipped with multiple Canon large-aperture super-telephoto single focal length lenses – specifically, the Canon EF 400mm f2.8L IS II USM lens. The telescope was designed in 2013 by Project Dragonfly, an international research team from Yale University and the University of Toronto.
