Canon launches EOS VR system for 180º virtual reality capture

Canon has announced a new branch of the EOS family tree – the EOS VR system. This is a pioneering new virtual reality (VR) capture solution that leverages the capabilities of Canon's RF lens mount, around which the EOS R system has been built.  The RF mount has also enabled new, groundbreaking lens design since its introduction in 2018. As part of the announcement, Canon has launched the RF 5.2mm f2.8L DUAL FISHEYE lens. This unusual-looking optic deploys two f2.8 lenses with a combined ultra-wide 190º field-of-view. An image is captured by each of the twin lenses and aligned onto the one sensor, resulting in one image with the same performance characteristics. Additionally, the two EMD (aperture) units – one for each lens – are also finely controlled to maintain a consistent exposure onto the sensor, helping to reduce post-production grading and expertise required to match the left and right image output.. It's compatible initially with the EOS R5 full frame mirrorless camera
