Canon releases statement on EOS R5 and R6 video heat management

Canon has released a statement on how heat is managed in its new EOS R5 and R6 mirrorless cameras, as well as clarification on video recording times. Canon EOS R5 and R6: Shooting times for video modes Canon UK & Ireland: The highly anticipated Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6, two advanced full frame mirrorless cameras, offer a combination of speed and resolution to set new standards and make mirrorless an ideal choice for everyone from wedding to wildlife photographers. EOS R5 and EOS R6 offer powerful stills and movie recording capabilities within compact body designs, allowing photographers and filmmakers to push creative boundaries harder and capture action better than ever before. At the highest frame rates and resolutions, heat is generated because of the best-in-class resolution, frame rate and autofocus capability, which can limit continuous recording times. Several steps have been taken to manage this; magnesium alloy is used in the body to dissipate heat away from internal compon...

Canon EOS R5 becomes official; EOS R6 debuts too

Canon has reimagined its full frame mirrorless range, with the introduction of two new EOS R models – the EOS R5 and EOS R6. Bearing similarities across the two cameras' features sets, the R5 and R6 both offer exceptional opportunities to photographers, with 12 frames per second (fps) shooting rates, extended to 20fps with the electronic shutter, latest DIGIC X processing power and, for the first time in an EOS camera, 5-stop in-body image stabilisation (IS) which works with existing lens IS to offer up to 8 stops of stabilisation benefit. Canon's powerful Dual Pixel AF system has been further enhanced, with both cameras benefitting from the latest autofocus technology and AI learning for not only human subjects but now also animal subjects too, in the form of dogs, cats and birds. This works with eyes, faces and head shapes, for both static and moving subjects. Canon builds the EOS R system with two Extenders and two grips

Bringing new options to its EOS R full frame mirrorless system, Canon has officially announced its two RF Extenders – Canon's name for teleconverters – as well as two new grips, one with a built-in Wi-Fi transmitter and ethernet port specifically for the new EOS R5. Extenders EF 1.4x and 2x Built specifically to match the optical excellence of compatible RF lenses, these two new Extenders increase the focal length of the attached lens. Both Extenders use advanced high-refraction, low-dispersion glass to control curvature of field and chromatic aberration of magnification. They also feature a lens coating and three-layer combined lens to reduce ghosting. They're also designed to work in extremes – with heat shield coating to prevent performance deterioration in high temperatures and weather sealing for wet and dusty environments (when used with a compatible L-series RF lens). At launch the two Extenders are compatible with the RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L IS USM lens (from 300mm upwar...

RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L IS USM lens The RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L IS USM lens is a compact and versatile telephoto zoom lens. Bearing the L-series hallmark, it is weather-sealed and contains one Super-UD and six UD lens elements for superb image quality. There's an assignable control ring, common across the RF range, plus the lens offers 5-stop image stabilisation – 6 stop when used with the new EOS R5 and R6 cameras. It's powered by two Nano USM motors for fast focusing performance. Whilst offering 100mm extra reach than the EF 100-400mm, the RF 100-500mm lens is 13% lighter than its EF counterpart. The RF 100-500mm wi...
