Canon EOS R6 Mark II takes focusing intelligence to new level

Canon has announced the successor to its popular full frame EOS R6 mirrorless camera. The EOS R6 Mark II is the fastest EOS camera to date. It can shoot at up to 40 frames per second (fps) via the electronic shutter, and up to 12fps with the mechanical shutter. Canon says the Mark II is 80% faster than the original R6. It does share many features and benefits with the original EOS R6, but exceeds it in a number of areas. Whilst the Mark II is powered by the same DIGIC X processor as its R-series siblings, it features a brand new 24.3MP CMOS sensor.  It’s more intelligent too. The EOS R6 Mark II can recognise even more subject types than previous iterations of Canon's AI-programmed subject detection system, as it now includes trains and planes in the Vehicles programming, and horses and zebras with the Animals setting.  This is further enhanced by the inclusion of Subject tracking, so that the camera will follow your subject around the frame – this was first featured on the EOS...

Canon RF 135mm f1.8L IS USM prime lens launched

Canon has announced details of its first 135mm lens with an RF mount. The RF 135mm f1.8L IS USM is the fourth prime lens in the Canon EOS ecosystem to feature this focal length; there have been two specialist version – a soft focus edition in 1987 and a tilt-and-shift lens in the past decade – but the most obvious predecessor is the popular portrait lens, the EF 135mm f2L USM which was launched in 1996. The key advantage of a prime 135mm mid-telephoto lens is that it enables you to isolate your subject – or the most important element of it – without losing the background. A focal length of 135mm is ideal for candid portraits, as it allows you to shoot from a comfortable distance while compressing subject features for more flattering shots. The maximum aperture of f1.8 of the RF 135mm lens also offers you the ability to capture beautifully rendered bokeh. The RF 135mm f1.8L IS USM has two Lens function buttons – a first for a lens of this type and which are customisable for additional c...
