Canon receives two EISA Awards

The 2021-2022 Expert Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) awards include the following Canon products and comments from the selectors.

EOS R5 (Premium Camera)
Canon’s highly-specified mirrorless all-rounder is feature-filled and built to last. It produces extremely sharp, high-resolution 45-million-pixel images, while being capable of recording both 8K and 4K video. It also boasts a high-speed, high-precision Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system, up to 8 stops of in-body image stabilisation, and high-speed continuous shooting at up to 20fps. The AI-based subject-recognition system is capable of detecting and tracking human eyes, faces, and bodies, as well as those of some animals. Combine these features with its robust build and superb handling, and there is probably no assignment that the R5 cannot take care of.

RF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM
While most manufacturers have built up their full-frame mirrorless lens ranges by replicating their most popular SLR designs, Canon has consistently been more imaginative. Its new RF-mount 100mm f/2.8 offers the highest magnification ratio of any autofocus macro lens, at 1.4x, allowing users of its EOS R-system cameras to fill the frame with a subject measuring just 26x17mm. It also gains a new spherical aberration control ring that adjusts the smoothness of blur in either the foreground or background. Together, these two innovations promise to open new avenues of creative expression for close-up photography.

More EOS firmware updates

Canon released a number of firmware updates in March 2024, as follows: EOS R3 – version 1.7.1 1. Enables servo zooming to be remotely controlled from EOS Utility or Camera Connect when Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2/PZ-E2B is attached to a compatible lens. 2. Enables up to 2 TB to be used on CFexpress cards larger than 2 TB. 3. Fixes an issue that may cause the camera, in rare instances, to stop functioning when using GPS. 4. Fixes an issue that may display Error Code 70 when performing anti-flicker shooting at a shutter speed of 1 second or higher. 5. Enhances security for FTPS (File Transfer Protocol Security) connections. 6. Fixes an issue in which Mobile File Transfer may not function when connecting the camera to an iPhone compatible with USB 3.0 and higher. 7. Fixes an issue that, under specific circumstances, may prevent the image from being displayed in the viewfinder or on the screen causing the camera to stop operating, or Error Code 70 may be displayed. 8. Firmware updates for EOS-1D X Mark III, R3, R5, R6 Mark II and R8

Firmware updates have been introduced for five Canon EOS cameras. EOS-1D X Mark III: firmware version 1.8.0 1. Adds the ability to register the focus position in the preset functions of the CR-A100 Camera Remote Application. When used with the Robotic Camera System CR-S700R, it helps the user to focus on the intended subject distance when shooting. 2. Adds the ability to erase voice memos added to images and to add voice memos to protected images. 3. Adds enhanced security when transferring images via FTPS transfer. 4. Fixes minor issues. A trio of innovative lenses from Canon

Canon has announced three new lenses for the EOS R mirrorless camera system, expanding the range of optics available for enthusiast and professional photographers, videographers and filmmakers alike. • RF 200-800mm f6.3-9 IS USM is a super-telephoto lens that looks like an L-series, is robust like an L-series, but without the L-series price tag. Ideal for enthusiast nature and sports photographers, the RF 200-800mm is the longest reaching zoom for the EOS R system, which can be extended even further with the use of Canon's teleconverters, the Extender RF 1.4x and 2x. It offers image stabilisation with a benefit of 5.5 stops, which increases to 7.5 stops when used with compatible IBIS (in-body image stabilisation) equipped cameras.
