Two TIPA awards for Canon EOS system

Canon has picked up just two awards from the Technical Imaging Press Association (TIPA) for the 2021 season. With the EOS R5 and R6 cameras overlooked, TIPA has given awards to Canon in the following categories:

Best APS-C Camera Entry-level: EOS M50 Mark II

Best Prime Telephoto Lens: RF 600mm f11 IS STM

The EOS M50 Mark II follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, the EOS M50, which won the Best Mirrorless CSC Enthusiast category in 2018.

To reflect the changing product climate, new categories have been introduced, whilst the remaining splits between mirrorless and DSLR categories has been fully eliminated.

The TIPA board noted that "mirrorless introductions have all but replaced what was once a full-house of DSLRs. New full frame, APS-C and medium format cameras all offered higher megapixel counts, greater sensitivity and dynamic range, all while being more compact, lightweight and portable. The influence of vloggers and content creators made for new categories in both cameras and accessories, while new lenses for mirrorless cameras offered wider aperture and advanced coupling features."

The TIPA awards are now in their 30th year. Whilst the 2020 awards ceremony was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, it is hoped that the 2021 event will take place at Photopia in Hamburg, Germany on Friday, 24 September 2021.

EOS R3 and R5 firmware sets new standards

Canon Europe today announces firmware updates for the EOS R3 and EOS R5 in response to feedback and requests from users. For the EOS R3, firmware version 1.4.0 means capturing fast-moving subjects is easier than ever before with Panning Assist, while firmware v1.8.1 for the EOS R5 offers enhanced resolution. Canon also announces new features coming to its Mobile File Transfer app, making it even more user-friendly and adaptable to workflows.
