Autofocus at f8 for EOS-1D X

Firmware update v1.1.1 has been released for the EOS-1D X. It improves the scope and performance of the AF function and provides minor fixes.

New features
•  The centre AF point (one cross-type with four supporting points) can now be used to autofocus at a maximum aperture of f8. This means that L-series telephoto zoom lenses will autofocus when used with an Extender (f5.6 lenses will only maintain autofocus with the Extender EF 1.4x I, II or III).
•  During AI Servo AF shooting in low light, viewfinder information is now illuminated. The AF points blink intermittently in red, allowing them to be easily confirmed whilst shooting without affecting the metering of the scene.

Corrections
•  Corrects a phenomenon where the metering value of the AE sensor becomes abnormal, affecting the final image
•  Corrects a phenomenon where Error 70 may occur during AEB shooting
•  Corrects a phenomenon where the firmware of the lenses cannot be updated normally
•  Minor corrections to Arabic menu

Canon announces development of flagship EOS R1

Canon Inc. has announced today that it is currently developing the EOS R1, a full-frame mirrorless camera, as the first flagship model for the EOS R system.  Whilst there is no timeline given for launch as yet, Canon has released hints of what's to come in terms of technology. It will use a newly developed processor, called DIGIC Accelerator, alongside the existing DIGIC X found in other R-series cameras plus a newly developed image sensor, which will enable a large volume of data to be processed at high speeds, and which will also deliver advances in autofocus (AF) and other functions as yet unspecified. Canon announces EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II as next R system evolution

Canon has today launched two new cameras for the EOS R system – the EOS R1, a new flagship model to take over from the EOS-1D X Mark III, and the EOS R5 Mark II, the next iteration of the ever-popular 5-series. The two camera share much more than just a launch date. They herald the arrival of the next generation of Canon's sensor-based focusing system – Dual Pixel Intelligent AF – as well as offering a raft of improvements over previous R-series cameras.
